Classified - No Longer Top Secret by Cher D
Classified
(aka Luke Boyd) is no longer top secret as anyone attending his July
show at the Mod Club in Toronto can verify. His show was a
remarkable crowd pleaser that had the packed house
hip-hoppin'.
Classified
brings a certain "class" to the Canadian rap/hip hop game. He has
a more down-home approach than the in-your-face attitude that has
become synonymous with the rap identity. This definitely distinguishes
him from the gangsta rappers and flashy hip hop artists that are
promoted south of the border.
"Hitch-Hikin'
Music" is not only the name of Classified's most recent album but also
his philosophy. That philosophy entails a heavy emphasis on
collaborating with other artists including 112, Saukrates, Rascalz,
Maestro, Choclair and Swollen Members. Through his
production company HalfLIfe, Classified brings other performers along
for the ride. His crew for his most recent tour included performers
Jordan Croucher, J-Bru, D.O., D.J IV and his little bro Mic
Boyd.
Classified
incorporates an East coast twist to hip-hop that makes his sound unique
in the industry. His beats are intense and his lyrics are thought
provoking. His talents have led to accolades within the music industry
including a MMVA for Best Rap video, ECMA for Rap recording of the year
in 2005, and a nomination at the 2006 Juno Awards for Best Rap
Recording of the Year.
In
an industry that seems to require a certain cookie cutter approach to
music - Classified is a refreshing change. Technically, Luke Boyd has
gone from Classified to . . . "There's a movement happenin' here boy!"
